In keeping with the global trend of cutting jobs, tech giant Microsoft recently sacked nearly 1,000 employees across verticals. This is the third layoff by the company in recent times.
According to Axios, the layoffs took place across different levels and teams across the world.
The layoffs affected less than 1 per cent of Microsoft’s total workforce of around 221,000 as of June 30.
The company had said in July that a small number of roles had been eliminated and that it would increase its headcount down the line.
Several of the Microsoft’s employees, who lost jobs, confirmed on different social media platforms about the layoff, even as the company refused to confirm how many people were let go.
“Like all companies, we evaluate our business priorities on a regular basis and make structural adjustments accordingly. We will continue to invest in our business and hire in key growth areas in the year ahead,” Axios quoted Microsoft as saying in a statement.
In July, Microsoft had sacked nearly one per cent of its employees across different offices and verticals. A month later, the company had sacked another 200 employees.
Several technology companies, including Meta Platforms, Twitter and Snap, have cut jobs and scaled back hiring in recent months as global economic growth slows due to higher interest rates, rising inflation and an energy crisis in Europe.
A recent survey had revealed that over 50 per cent of the CEOs in the US are considering reducing the workforce.
