Tata Motors joins hands with JLR to roll out premium EV series Avinya

Tata Motors on Thursday announced that it had partnered with JLR for development of its premium pure electric series Avinya.

Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM) signed an MoU with JLR (Jaguar Land Rover ) for licensing of JLR’ platform for a royalty fee for developing Avinya series vehicles.

“As part of this knowledge, skills and manufacturing process transfer, over 200 new jobs are expected to be created in the UK,” said the auto major.

TPEM and JLR would also enter into an engineering services agreement to support TPEM’s change content requirements for the first vehicle development, said Tata Motors in a statement.

JLR’s EMA platform would underpin JLR’s next generation of pure electric, mid-sized SUVs for international markets to be launched from 2025 onwards. The access to JLR’s EMA platform, would help accelerate TPEM’s entry into the high-end EV segment while reducing development cycle time and costs, said the company.

“Being built on an architecture that is equipped with the latest advances in new-age technology, software and artificial intelligence, Avinya will spawn a new breed of world-class electric vehicles (EVs), with global standards in efficiency and range,” said Anand Kulkarni, the chief product officer and head of HV programmes, TPEM.
