BEML unveils driverless metro train

Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently unveiled driverless metro cars for Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), manufactured by BEML at its Bengaluru complex. The new metro cars will operate on 25-kv AC traction. They are designed and developed for driverless or unattended train operations. The metro cars are made up of stainlesssteel body and are equipped with CCTV surveillance for passenger safety. Each six-car metro train set has a capacity of carrying 2,280 passengers. BEML, a State-owned corporation under the Union Defence Ministry, operates in three main verticals – defence and aerospace, mining and construction and rail and metro.
