The Bhupesh Baghel government of Chhattisgarh has once again given a big gift to farmers under the Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel ensured that Rs 1,522 crore was paid into the bank accounts of about 21 lakh farmers of the State under the scheme on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on August 20.
The State government has adopted the vision of Rajiv Gandhi to eradicate poverty and build a self-reliant Chhattisgarh. It has started many welfare programmes and schemes for all sections of people, including the poor, farmers and tribals.
Rajiv Gandhi Kisan Nyay Yojana has been started to provide remunerative price to farmers for their produce. Under the scheme, Rs 5,600 crore has been earmarked for the State’s 21 lakh paddy and sugarcane farmers to be paid in four instalments as crop production input incentive for 2020-21. Of this, Rs 1,525.97 crore was paid as first instalment earlier in the year. The second instalment of Rs 1,522.30 crore was transferred into the farmers’ bank accounts on August 20.
Under the Godhan Nyay Yojana, the State government has paid Rs 3.49 crore into the bank accounts of cattle owners and members of the Gauthan committees and women self-help groups by purchasing cow dung from them. The government’s Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Bhoomiheen Krishi Mazdoor Nyay Yojana provides the State’s landless agricultural labourers financial help of Rs 6,000 annually.
Many of the State’s pro-farmer schemes implemented during the past two-and-a-half years have helped agricultural growth, increased number of farmers from 15 lakh to 22 lakh and boosted the area under paddy cultivation from 22 lakh hectares to more than 27 lakh hectares. Moreover, these schemes have made agriculture remunerative in the State and helped in enriching its farmers.
