ArcelorMittal to invest Rs 50,000 crore in Gujarat: Chief Minister Vijay Rupani

ArcelorMittal, the world’s leading steel and mining company, will invest more than Rs 50,000 crore in Gujarat, Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has said. Mr Rupani’s announcement comes a day after ArcelorMittal Executive Chairman Lakshmi Mittal had called on the State’s chief minister. 

“All industrialists from India and abroad, including Lakshmi Mittal, are coming to Gujarat for making investment as they count Gujarat as the best (investment) destination. Lakshmi Mittal came to meet me yesterday (Saturday). He told me that he will make an investment of more than Rs 50,000 crore in Gujarat in the coming days,” Mr Rupani told reporters on Sunday. 

During his trip to Gujarat, Mr Mittal had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had attended the Combined Commanders’ Conference in Kevadia on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said, adding that it was a courtesy visit. Mr Mittal had also met the deputy chief minister and the chief minister at Vidhan Sabha. “On Saturday, when PM Modi was in Gujarat, Mr Mittal paid him a courtesy visit,” Mr Patel had said. 

Mr Patel further added that Mr Mittal had talked about his proposed contribution for making Gujarat an industrial leader during his discussion with him and the chief minister. Mr Mittal had also visited the world’s tallest Statue of Unity in Kevadia on Friday.
