NLC India has announced commencement of coal production at its Pachwara South Open Cast Project. The milestone marks a significant development for the company’s joint venture operations in Jharkhand.
The Pachwara South Coal Block is operated by Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power (NUPPL), a joint venture between NLC India and UP Rajya Viduyt Utpadan Nigam.
The partnership maintains an equity shareholding ratio of 51:49 respectively, with NLC India holding the majority stake.
The Pachwara South Coal Block represents a substantial resource base for the joint venture’s operations.
NUPPL was allotted the Pachwara coal block in October 2016, and coal production began on March 29, 2026, NLC India has said in a stock exchange filing.
The block, which was previously unexplored, has undergone comprehensive exploration by NUPPL through detailed drilling across the entire area.
The block is estimated to hold 264.84 mt of extractable coal reserves with a mining capacity of 9 mt per annum.
The coal extracted from this block will meet the fuel requirements of the 3 x 660 mw Ghatampur Thermal Power Plant being established in Ghatampur, Uttar Pradesh.
