DMRC subsidiary eyes global expansion, as foreign countries seek metro project tie-ups

Israel, Egypt, Kenya and some other countries have approached Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for possible collaboration in metro projects, DMRC Managing Director Vikas Kumar has said.
The corporation is looking to expand its international presence through a dedicated overseas arm, as it seeks additional revenue to modernise ageing infrastructure in the national capital, Mr Kumar has told the PTI.
DMRC is currently associated with metro projects in Dhaka, where it is providing consultancy support and assisting in execution of the project and in its operations and maintenance (O&M).
“Right now, we are associated with Dhaka. We are working there as consultants and also helping them in executing the project. We are also supporting them in O&M,” he has said.
Mr Kumar has added that Israel and Egypt had approached DMRC in the past regarding possible metro collaborations.
Some African nations, including Kenya, have also shown interest in engaging with the corporation, though discussions have not progressed further, the DMRC MD reveals.
“We have formed a new company, Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), and now, we are very aggressively trying to get some contracts abroad,” Mr Kumar has said.
Mr Kumar adds that revenue generated through projects outside Delhi will help the corporation undertake refurbishment and modernisation work across the Delhi Metro network, parts of which are now over two decades old.
