Primary market booming as 215 IPOs raise record Rs 1,00,217 crore in H1 of FY27

Total fund-raising through initial public offers (IPOs) touched a record high by crossing the Rs 1,00,000-crore mark (Rs 1,00,217 crore) in the first half (H1) of FY27.
The amount mopped up through the initial share sales between April and September of 2026 was 24 per cent higher than Rs 76,330 crore raised during the year-ago period, according to a report by PRIME Database, a financial information services company.
A total of 78 companies hit the main board of the equity market and collected Rs 94,205 crore during the first six months of 2026-27.
During the H1 of FY26, 65 companies had mobilised Rs 69,533 crore via IPOs, marking an all-time high mop-up at that time.
Of the Rs 1,00,217-crore IPOs, Rs 6,012 crore was raised by 137 by small and medium enterprises (SMEs) on the SME board of the equity market, a minor 11% dip in fund-raising compared with Rs 6,750 crore mopped up by 156 listings during the corresponding period of last year.
“This record fund-raising has happened despite an extremely slow start to the year, with only Rs 3,794 crore being raised in the first three months and also despite volatile secondary markets through most part of the six months,” PRIME Database Managing Director Pranav Haldea has said.
The overall public equity fund-raising — including IPOs on the main board and the SME board, institutional placements and money raised by infrastructure and real estate investment trusts — jumped by 75 per cent to an all-time high of Rs 2.43 lakh crore in the same period.
Apart from the NSE’s Rs 22,563-crore IPO, other big issues included the Rs 9,795 crore raised by SBI Funds Management and Rs 9,275 crore collected by Manipal Health Enterprises.
Of the 64 IPOs for which data about their performance is available, 42 received a mega response of more than 10 times, which included 25 issues with over 50 times subscription.
The average listing gain, which compares the issue price with the closing price on the listing date, for the 64 IPOs increased to 19 per cent compared with 7 per cent in the H1 of FY26.
The outlook for IPO activity is bright, with the SEBI’s approval for 145 companies proposing to raise around Rs 2.78 lakh crore.
Another 102 companies are awaiting the markets regulator’s nod for public issues worth Rs 1.87 lakh crore.
