Jio IPO shatters records, attracting over 1 crore bids worth Rs 7 lakh crore

Jio Platforms’ Rs 30,213-crore initial public offer (IPO) attracted record investor interest as it closed on Friday.
The IPO defied a selloff in Indian equities to become the country’s most sought after share sale by the value of bids received.
The offer drew combined bids worth around Rs 7 lakh crore, including demand from anchor investors, while receiving a record 1.34 crore applications.
It was fully subscribed within 100 minutes of opening, making it the fastest-subscribed mega IPO in India.
Institutional investors led the demand, with the qualified institutional buyers (QIB) category attracting particularly strong interest.
The issue also received substantial bids from high networth individuals (HNIs), retail investors, employees and existing Reliance Industries (RIL) shareholders.
According to the figures shared for the offer, QIBs excluding anchor investors placed bids worth Rs 3.87 lakh crore, while the HNI category subscribed for bids valued at Rs 57,000 crore.
Retail investors bid Rs 26,000 crore for Jio shares, while existing shareholders and the RIL Group employees placed bids worth Rs 19,000 crore and Rs 1,450 crore respectively.
The IPO marks another milestone for Jio Platforms following its private-market fundraising of $20 billion from 13 strategic and private equity investors in 2020.
At the IPO offer price, Jio Platforms is valued at around Rs 10.3 lakh crore, placing it among India’s largest listed companies by market capitalisation.
Globally, the company is set to join a select group of founder-led businesses, alongside Meta, Alibaba and SpaceX, valued at more than $100 billion at the IPO stage.
